Daytrip:

After breakfast we drive to the south-western part of Berlin where we find the beautiful palace “Charlottenburg“. Build between 1696 and 1699  by king Frederick III as a summer-residence for his wife, Sophie Charlotte. 
The beautiful baroque garden was designed by Simeon Godeau. In the garden we find some more remarkable buildings like the mausoleum, build in 1810 for the famouse queen Louise by Frederick William III. It is design by the famous architect Schinkel.
In 1894 it has been enlarged for the graves of emperor William the 1^st and his wife Augusta. Some of these graves can be admired at close range.
After that we drive to Potsdam, a small city, half an hour down south of  Berlin.
Among other things we visit here a famous part of Potsdam, called “the Dutch quarter”.
Build by king Frederick William 1^st in 1736 for dutch workers who were hired to help him build his palaces. More than 120 typical dutch houses, create a remarkable atmosphere and one of  the most visited spots in the region. Also the “Captain of Köpenick” started his adventure in this part of Potsdam, but that´s an other (interesting) story.
Before we drive on to palace “Sans Souci”, we go for lunch first.
Sanssouci= Sans Souci= without worries.
Build in the first half of the 18^th century by the famous king Frederick the Great, for he needed a place, far from the parlemental stress in Berlin, where he good retrieve and forget his worries while walking with his eleven greyhounds through this immense and beautiful park, surrounding the palace.
He loved this place so much that in 1744, after the start of the construction, he gave order to dig his grave, right beside his palace. To rest there for evermore, with his dogs...

After breakfast we drive to the city of Oranienburg, just north of Berlin.
The city was called Bütsow first, but was renamed later, after the palace build there by Frederick William 3^rd  for his wife, was named “Oranienburg”. For she was from the dutch royal family “van Oranje”.
In this palace is a permanent exhibition of dutch painters, such as Jan Lievens, Jan Mijtens and Antonis van Dijck. Not to mis is also the famouse porcelain-room with over 5000 pices of porcelain art.
Before we drive to Sachsenhausen, we go for lunch first.
After lunch we drive to the former concentrationcamp Sachsenhausen.
Build in 1936 by and for enemies of the national-socialists.
Between 1939 and 1945, more then 200.000 people were imprisoned in Sachsenhausen.
Shortly after the 2^nd WW. Sachsenhausen, except for the gaschambers and the mortuarium, was used again by the russian secret service, the KGB.
In 1950, the camp was closed. Since 1954, plans grew to preserve the camp as a monument and on the 22^nd of april, 1961 the national monument Sachsenhausen was opened.
Since 1993 it is also a museum with a permanent exhibition about the camp and against forgetting...
